We wanted to get back to writing and recording in a retro fashion using modern equipment and technology.
We borrowed production techniques from those we worshipped. Pink Floyd and of course the Beatles
We wanted to be pushed with what we could do with limited equipment.
To play with samples and loops and VST instruments.
All of the songs on this page were recorded on a 5 year old G4 Mac Powerbook using only Garageband. Obviously, this presents limitations, or so one would think.
But the human mind will always seek resolution.
Processor limitations pushed us. Bouncing down track to track, making sure each merge or bounce down was as good as we could get it because once you merge tracks, you're fucked. You can't do anything about it. It's done. If the bass is flat it stays flat. If the drums are too loud, you can't change them...too late mate!!
I learnt everything I could about how George Martin used to record in Studio 2 Abbey Road, and how imagination changes everything.
Necessity is the mother fucker of invention."
Mick
The Beatless (theawesome2some) are Paul Fernandez and Mick Walsh. Paul is Spanish and Mick is often drunk. Together they write killer pop songs and would like to break into TV and movies. Failing that, they would like to break into people's houses.
The Beatless create the music everyone is longing for, everyone is
sampling, but no one is writing. Taking the sounds of the sixties
and seventies and intertwining them with modern rock and grunge riffs,
they have begun to pave the road towards re-emergence of a quality and
memorable sound.
Paul grew up in the suburbs of New Jersey, stretching
his musical talent amongst the other young bands in the local scene,
before starting his own band. That band would be named Que Cera and
would help to mould his sound. The band toured up and down the east coast
before spreading out westward. They toured through the mid-west, and
survived on cd and merchandise sales. Paul would need to be on his own
writing what he wanted to.
After meeting Mick Paul knew it wouldn't be long, due to his talent and background that they would collaborate . Mick is a talented professional hailing all the
way from England. He has a strange accent that gay men and women tend to find quite sexy.
Recently, Paul has been spreading the word on radio
stations both college and national. Such stations include 89.5 Monmouth
Univ. and 101.5 NJ Tri State radio.
This creative team may well be considered a
rock-n-roll rebellion all on its own, a reminder to the establishment, and
teachers to the youth, that rock-n-roll will never die.
They both like dogs and ballroom dancing of which Paul is a national champion.
Mick, enjoys shouting at the tourists in Times Square and stalking nuns.
